Dean has rough skin and strong hands, built for carrying guns and fixing cars, and an even rougher personality, crass and impatient and filled to the brim with snark. Yet when Sam is hurt, even if it’s just a gash on his hand, Dean is tender and gentle, moving slow and careful as to not exacerbate things. But it’s not just the hand. Something is fundamentally wrong with Sam, it’s clear as day to him, though he has no idea how bad it really is yet. So he dotes on him more than he would have a few weeks ago, before the wall was broken. Like he did when Sam was young. And Sam watches Dean, a mixture of terror and confusion swimming in his eyes that are a heartbeat away from swelling up with tears as he struggles to keep his mind in reality. He looks to Dean like he did as he was growing up, searching for answers and subconsciously needing him to make it all okay.
Jensen: Well, there’s this guy, Jared Pada… Pada-something and they really are liking him for one of the brothers.’ So of course, I look him up online.
Jared: He thought I was hot.
Jensen: [laughs] This guy is smokin’ hot. I cannot play his brother.
Jensen: Jared and I are lucky to get along so well without having any effort to make. One day, the producers came to see us and told us they had never worked with actors who got along so well. It gives us the opportunity to make the relationship between Sam and Dean have credibility. I think the audience feels how much Jared and I like being together.
Jared: I think the reason Jensen and I got along so well was because we didn’t really go about bonding… It didn’t feel like a blind date. It felt like we were continuing a relationship as opposed to saying, “All right, we’re supposed to hang out with each other… or something.” We just sort of hung out… We just hit it off immediately. There’s no rhyme or reason to what happened.
Jensen: I can pretty much tell you a story about any aspect of Jared. I can tell you when he gets angry how he is, I can tell you when he gets sad how he is, I can tell you when he’s having a fight with a… you know, a girlfriend how he is. So, uh, I will say that with all those he is a very passionate person about what he does. He loves his family and friends, he loves his dogs… and they love him.
Jared: We ruin scenes sometimes by laughing too much. We work so late and sometimes we’re really tired, so it won’t take a lot to set us off laughing like idiots. In those cases, I can’t stop myself. All I have to do is look at Jensen’s big smile, which makes him look like he’s six and a half, and I can’t stop myself laughing.
Jensen: If you see that outtake you’ll notice that I’m laughing hysterically, probably more than I should be. But it was funny, because he was talking about, “Man, I’m like putting on this weight, and I’m retaining all this water,” and I’m like, “You’re such a girl, dude.” And then he does that and his pants rip, and I just couldn’t hold it in, it was hilarious. What an idiot.
Jared: …That’s when I split my pants… You know what my favorite part of that is? When Jensen laughs. He’s got the best laugh there.
Jensen: [Jared’s] a bit of a baby. I have to slap his hand away every now and again when he wants to hold mine. He’s also a very big baby…I’m 6’1” and he makes me look 5’9”. He’s 6’5”. I tell him I get to slap him whenever I stand on an apple-box.
Jensen: I don’t know… why are you telling this story?!!
Jared: I have to. Jensen… He is… he plays sports, he works out, he’s got a girlfriend. He’s kind of the manly kind of guy. He doesn’t look it, but… plays football and stuff…We’re sitting there and having a drink and stuff. And then Jensen kind of gets this funny look on his face, and then he goes, “Wait, stay still.” And then about halfway into reaching for my face, he realizes he is like reaching to grab my face and you see his face change to like “Oh I gotta get that” to “WHAT AM I DOING?”
Question: You have MBV in 3-D in theaters now and Jared has F13 coming out this month. Is there any sense of friendly competition?
Jensen: No not at all. In fact… [reaches for cell phone and goes through messages] he wrote, ‘Hey, dude, thinking about you, hope it’s going well. Kick ass. Enjoy.” No, we’re very supportive. I’m stoked to see his movie and he said he couldn’t wait to see mine.
Jensen: [to Jared] I was getting bored back there wihout you… I love when [Jared] comes on stage because I have to do nothing. This little ball of energy….. Maybe not so little…. yeah, Ginormous.
So I went to Madison Comic Con this past weekend and was sitting in on a Jewel Straite Q&A panel (Kaylee from Firefly for those who don’t know and adult Amy Pond from Supernatural).
She obviously mostly talked about her work on Firefly and Stargate but somebody did ask a question about her experience on set of Supernatural. She said that Jensen and Jared were the most sweet, kind, and welcoming people she had ever met. She also shared two stories which I summarized:
Jewel and a friend were at a bar in Vancouver recently when she walked into the place she saw Jared and Jensen sitting at the bar talking. Instead of bothering them she went and sat down at a table. Within minutes of her sitting down “the boys came bounding over to her, asking why she didn’t come talk to them. And if she saw them sitting at the bar.” They then talked for awhile and caught up on life.
The second story she shared was about one of her friends who also was a guest star on the show. She had asked Jared and Jensen if she could get a picture at the end of filming the episode. They obliged, unfortunately they wrapped an hour before her so when she was done she was like “oh well. It’s not a big deal.” She walked back to her trailer to find both of them waiting for her. “You want that picture now?” they asked.
We have all heard stories about how great Jared and Jensen are. How they treat everybody from their friends and family to the cast, crew, and even one time guest stars on the show speaks volumes about their character. Jewel was on one episode of Supernatural and worked with the boys for a week. The fact that they recognized her and sought her out at the bar is awesome.
Jared and Jensen seem like such wonderful, kind people. i am glad that they have had such an impact on my life.
