One of the reasons I love Supernatural is how they parade the platonic brother love above everything. Platonic relationships are often either ruined by turning it into a romance or devalued, when weight against a romantic one. But Supernatural stays loyal and protective to the brother bond, showing how the unconditional brother love can weight more than anything, and how this platonic relationship outlives all the romantic ones.
Sam and Dean are canon platonic life partners, if it hasn’t been made bluntly clear.
11 years of Supernatural have proved time and time again, the brothers simply can’t live without one another, and they would put nothing, no one else in front of their own brother. And because of this love and devotion they have for their brother, any slice of normalcy and romantic partnership with other people are doomed to fail – because in the end they’d always choose their brother instead. This is who they are and they have accepted it. Dead or alive, they are in this together, being a hunter, a brother and a friend, is what defines them. They’ve been together since Sam was born, and would settled for being together for the rest of their lives, it’s plain and simple.
It is not hard to grasp this concept of the brothers choosing each other as life partner, when you can accept the fact that a romantic partnership is not everyone’s life goal, and there are people would be happy to settle down with a platonic relationship over a romantic one.
