You know, I usually just delete anons like this and block the person who sent it because I know most people who send shit just want to see me react. It’s more fun to leave them dangling there, wondering if I ever even saw their message. But I’m gonna answer this. You’re operating under some HUGE misconceptions and I just can’t let that go by.
Misconception #1) Dean gave Cas a mix tape. That wasn’t a mix tape. A mix tape (as is implied in the name) is a MIX. It has various artists and songs that remind the person who made it of the person who receives it. What Dean gave to Cas was a best tracks (or “best traxx”) tape. That’s where a person has a bunch of different cassettes from the same artist and they pick their favorite songs and put it all on one tape. It was pretty common in the 80s and early 90s before CDs became the big thing. That way you didn’t have to keep switching tapes while you were trying to drive- all your faves were right there on one tape. I had a bunch of those that I made including a Prince one that I had to remake about 10 different times bc I kept wearing it out. It’s usually not made for someone else. I guess he could have made it specifically for Cas but to me it makes more sense that Dean made that tape for himself way earlier. He could have shared it with Cas bc ever since season 5, he’s been trying to educate Cas in what he believes to be the finer things in life. Like Led Zeppelin.
Misconception #2) We’re bitter bc he never gave Sam one. Why would he give Sam a tape of his favorite music? Sam is sitting next to him in the Impala listening to it 99% of the time. You don’t think Sam knows at a bone deep level which bands and songs are Dean’s favorite? Of course he does.
Misconception #3) It’s romantic. The last two mix CDs I made were for my mom and dad. They were full of songs they love, ones that remind me of them. My dad still plays his all the time. My best friend used to make me best tracks cassettes because she always had a million good CDs and I only had a cassette player in my car. So she’d put the best songs from a CD on a cassette and mail it to me (this is when we were in college far away from each other). It was really sweet but it wasn’t romantic.
Misconception #4) I’m mad that Wincest won’t be canon but Destiel could be. Where on earth did you get the idea that I want my ship to be canon? No. I like the show and the brothers’ relationship as is, thanks. Honestly, you should be careful what you wish for when you’re talking about wanting your ship to go canon. I’ve had many ships (mostly het ones) become canon over the years and it always ends in the writers screwing everything up. Because what happens when a ship becomes canon on a show? They immediately start destroying it for the sake of drama. It trashes the whole thing. Also I don’t believe for one second that Destiel will ever be canon. I just don’t. And if you ship a thing just because you think it has canon potential, you’re missing a lot of fun. But that’s a whole different conversation.
Misconception #5) Dabb destroyed the codependency. How do you figure? Have we had as many good brother moments this season? No. I freely admit that. But at the same time, the brothers have spent this season in perfect lockstep. Aside from Sam not telling Dean about the BMoL right away (which was dealt with very quickly), they’ve been 100% on the same side and in perfect harmony. They do pretty much everything together. How is that less codependent? And as for there being fewer brother moments, I think there’s a reason for that. Jensen and Jared knew their wives were pregnant before the season started. They both admitted that the heavy scenes between the brothers take a toll on them emotionally in real life. If they already have these major life changes going on, doesn’t it make sense that the show would try to tone down the things that are difficult for them? That’s what I think anyway. It could just be bad writing or a combination of both.
Now listen to me: attacking someone else to make your ship look better actually has the opposite effect. You make the other shippers cringe because they don’t want to be associated with this behavior. So ship your thing and enjoy it and leave people who ship something else alone. Thanks.
