Learning the Banda by formalizing and rei_c. This is a J2 voodoo AU. I normally don’t read fics written in second person. They remind me too much of those Choose Your Own Adventure Books where it’s like “If you confront the scary man, turn to page 16. If you run away down the sunny path, turn to page 37… (turns to page 37) WRONG CHOICE, DUMBASS. Now you’re dead.” But I swear this fic elevates second person like no story I’ve ever read. It’s got some DARK themes though so read the warnings.
Fucking Kodiak, Alaska by Xenodyke. A J2 AU that is so cute and sexy and funny that I wish I could read it forever. Seriously.
Cri de Coeur [The Heart’s Cry] by kelleigh (girlfromcarolina). Wincest case fic set in a haunted plantation. It’s based on the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman which is a personal favorite.
These Violent Delights by dimpleforyourthoughts. J2 AU where Jared’s a waiter who wants to get out of Vegas and Jensen is a mob boss. Based on a Harlequin novel summary- I’m such a sucker for those. Don’t judge me. I’ve loved everything dimpleforyourthoughts has written and this is excellent.
Cause of Depth by kelleigh (girlfromcarolina) Wincest AU where Sam is a medical examiner and Dean is a cop. This isn’t as long (around 13K) but I can’t resist Sam in scrubs.
When It Crackles by lyra_wing. Wincest casefic where they infiltrate a cult. Oh, and they have to get married to do it. This story is older but I really wanted to read some casefics and this is a good one. Plus, FAKE MARRIAGE TROPE. Always good.
In a show where Dean and Sam are constantly paralleled with married couples, the writers really outdid themselves with the Sam & Dean/Amelia & Don thing. Sam and Amelia found each other because they were both completely broken by the loss of their partner. Don was a soldier missing in action, presumed dead by Amelia and everyone else. Dean is definitely a soldier and he’s basically missing in action too. Sam thinks he’s dead. Then both Don and Dean (really? even their names sound alike) come back. Don finds out about the relationship between Sam and Amelia and although he’s clearly not happy, he leaves it up to Amelia to make her decision.
Dean is also very much NOT HAPPY about Sam and Amelia. In We Need to Talk About Kevin, they have an exchange where Sam tries to explain why he stopped hunting and Dean gets incredibly hung up on one thing:
Sounds a lot like jealousy to me. It reminds me of the scene in Metamorphosis when Dean finds out about Sam using his powers and gets completely stuck less on the powers thing and more on the fact that he’s working with Ruby.
SAM: What, are you, are you leaving?
DEAN: You don’t need me. You and Ruby go fight demons.
But this time with Amelia, Dean eventually gives Sam basically the exact same choice Don gave Amelia: It’s her or me. All the way in or all the way out.
Amelia chose Sam, but of course Sam chose Dean. As always. So I guess maybe it’s not a perfect parallel because apparently Sam and Dean’s relationship is much stronger than that of the actual married couple.
